Canal Engineering specialises in designing, manufacturing, and installing architectural metal products including bespoke staircases, stainless steel drainage systems, safety platforms, and tobacco recovery machinery. Our company works with the UK’s leading architects, designers and contractors across a number of key industries to deliver bespoke metalwork solutions.
We are ideally looking for an experienced Sales Estimator to join the company, reporting to the Senior Estimator and directly to the Sales Manager
As part of our skilled estimating team, you’ll be responsible for creating estimates for prospective, new, and existing customers. This will involve interpreting information provided by the customer to understand their requirements, sourcing prices from multiple suppliers, checking for product compatibility and meeting strict deadlines. This role would suit someone looking to join a successful, established business who understands the importance of customer service delivery.
This is a rewarding role offering long-term career development and opportunities within the industry. The successful candidate should be organised, diligent, and able to confidently work under pressure. Exceptional communication skills are also an integral part of this role when dealing with customers and colleagues.
Salary: £25,000 – £35,000 (negotiable dependent upon experience.)
Responsibilities Include:
- Producing accurate quotations from the receipt of tender documentation sent directly to the estimating department or via information presented by the sales team
- Timely completion of Sales Achiever
- Maintaining accurate pricing in line with business strategy
- Developing positive working relationships with clients and colleagues
- Maintaining accurate records of tenders

Welder/Fitter (Architectural Staircases and Balustrades)
Job Description
Canal Engineering Ltd is a long-established, successful manufacturing business in Nottingham designing, manufacturing, and installing architectural metal products including bespoke staircases, stainless steel drainage systems, safety platforms, and tobacco recovery machinery.
We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Architectural Site Fitter Welder to join our site installation team: the role will be architecturally based and will involve the welding and assembly of architectural staircases and balustrades in either new build or refurbishment client premises.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has previous experience within the architectural sector
- Has previous experience of welding within a site environment, with TIG and stick welding experience an advantage
- Has relevant welding qualifications to NVQ L2 as minimum
- Holds an appropriate CSCS card
- Has a valid driving licence
The suitable candidate will be required to stay away from home throughout the week. In return we offer a competitive hourly rate (dependent on skills and experience,) overnight food and drink allowance, accommodation, pension and the opportunity to further develop your skills.

Stainless Steel Site Fitter – Food Drainage Systems

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced stainless steel fitter to join our onsite installation team. The suitable candidate must have experience in TIG Welding processes and have previous experience within the food drainage system industry. It is desirable that you have:
- Appropriate CSCS card
- Valid driving licence
- Previous experience of site fitting within a food factory/stainless steel environment

Sheet Metal Worker
To effectively and efficiently manufacture products as identified on the drawings or from instructions, to meet production targets, job budgets and objectives, in line with the business plan.
Position in the organisation
- The job holder reports to the works foremen.
Key measures of success
- To ensure that jobs are manufactured ensuring best use of own time, materials, resources, space and production methods.
- Hours allocated for job are met, Correct material are booked to all jobs
- To work safely at all times and ensure all workshop safety is complied with no breeches of health and safety occur.
- No recorded misuse or non-use of PPE own workshop area is hazard free
- To carry out checks and maintain accurate records of time on the job and materials used
- To talk with the foremen as soon as possible regarding any concerns that will affect efficiency, quality or production and delivery dates.
Target, time, budget
- Target – To ensure all work is manufactured to meet requirements of the drawing, instruction or customer. To produce jobs to meet the highest quality.
- Time – To ensure work is produced to meet set deadlines for production
- Budget –To work responsibly maximising workshop efficiency and cost effectiveness

- To work in a safe manner and deliver a high quality product.
- To be proactive in monitoring own effectiveness in job progression at all times.
- To report to the foremen and act as necessary to ensure target, time and budget are met.
- To carry out any other tasks as requested by foremen and management
- To develop and maintain current competency through training and to train others as required.
